The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a deeply rooted and complex issue, marked by decades of struggle and resistance. This blog post shares a personal account of the author's experiences as a young boy in the village of Turmusaya, Ramallah, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by Palestinian villagers under Zionist occupation.
A) The Day the Zionists Came to Turmusaya: When I was only eleven years old, my father decided to let me walk past Zionist soldiers armed with guns and explosives. They had come to our village, Turmusaya, located in Ramallah, to demolish a family home. As I approached the Zionists blocking the house entrance, the villagers on the other side of the line started to fight back, throwing fireworks. A live firework exploded on a Zionist soldier's face, and I was held at gunpoint by four soldiers. I told them I was just trying to help my sick grandmother, who was suffering from the tear gas they had fired at our home. They eventually let me go, and I rushed to aid my grandmother before sneaking back outside to continue resisting.
B) The Battle Intensifies: The Zionists approached closer to my grandmother's house, engaging my fellow villagers who were defending our land. The ground shook, and the sound of explosions filled the air. A rubber bullet hit me, rendering my leg numb. Despite the injury, my fellow villagers helped me back on my feet, and we continued our resistance by throwing fireworks and rocks, and creating black smoke as a sign of battle. Using my slingshot, I managed to hit a Zionist soldier, but they quickly retaliated with tear gas.
C) The Struggle for Survival: My pulse started to rise as I faced the threat of suffocation from the tear gas. My brother carried me to safety, comparing the Zionists to Adolf Hitler, who stole land from Jews, just as the Zionists were stealing our homes. We reached my uncle, who took us to the top of a mountain to view the destruction. Despite our anger and desire for revenge, we could only do so much without a supporting army. We gathered rocks and prepared to continue our resistance.
D) The Final Stand: As another explosion rocked the village, we rushed to the source, only to find the Zionists demolishing another home. The sound of tear gas bombs filled the air, and we fought back with our slingshots and raw onions to counter the effects of the gas. Despite the overwhelming force of the Zionists, we managed to corner them and get our revenge. Five soldiers were hit with propane gas bottles, and we waved goodbye as they retreated.
This personal account sheds light on the harsh realities faced by Palestinian villagers under Zionist occupation. Despite the overwhelming odds and lack of resources, the villagers' courage and resilience shine through. The struggle for Palestinian freedom continues, fueled by the desire for justice and peace.
